Oldtimer & Environment

Environmental policy and vintage

How much fuel a car consumes, and how much it pollutes the environment and the climate, the companies will be required to notify the car buyers. This is required by the EU. As advertised, of course, primarily with minimum fuel consumption. The standard consumption but has this huge outlier in operation upward, stands on another sheet of paper! The Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy has to be calculated as follows: In addition to the released energy and the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO) which are the exhaust escapes two other greenhouse gases associated with the operation of an automobile: nitrous oxide or nitrous oxide (N2O) from catalytic converters and the halogenated hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which serve as the now-ubiquitous air conditioning coolant. The bottom line (read in the SZ on 04.09.2002 Article: The wonderful world of thrust), 8-liter cars are really 11 liters cars, if all the secondary aspects (for example, the use of air conditioning caused an increased consumption of 0.35 liters per 100 km into account). The modern diesel classified as low emissions, have a serious drawback: the micro soot particles which are respirable, they secrete! I.e. the smut of older diesel engines are coughed up, the micro-particles of the new Diesel store on the lung tissue.

Topsy-turvy world?

Now comes the hour of classic cars. In general, it looks like this: a vintage year and who has exclusive use, is the true friend of the environment. A Greenpeace study concludes that has beset the new production of a vehicle, the environment so much that the loads occur during use even more in the background. Furthermore, classic car drivers usually defensive and deal with people who care moving with the technology. The fuel consumption leveling off in this style of driving then quickly in regions of an economical new car. What is more, numerous gas-guzzling, ministering spirits, such as power steering, air conditioning (most in the form of environmentally Faltschiebedächern) are not on board. Ultimately, it is also the weight of consumption so: It speaks well for the Mercedes Ponton with a 1200kg as much as a new VW Golf weighs. Spicy perspectives reveals it instead of throwing away the green motto: "Repair. or another message from this direction: "Maintaining and preserving the environment is the true blessing." This seems to apply to all not just for cars. We should buy the best permanent new cars with even more recent environmental technology. It helps, of course, the car industry in sales. But let's face it possible to: The cars in this way politically obsolete but in our poorer neighboring countries (especially Eastern Bloc) first entry into the motorization at low cost prices. In this respect, we sponsor the global motorization and we bow to the pressure to consume, at best by three-year lease. With a classic car you get out of this cycle of consumption! Of course, the crash safety is not as high, but a certain kind of passive safety, you also enjoy the classic car: The other consideration for others, one or the other gets a smile across his face. And if you look at it: How did we (the front of 70 generation) actually survived all unrestrained in the back seat of Dad's Bug ?!?!?! And why pedestrians still run without a helmet in the pedestrian areas around the cities?
